Over the course of his career as a chiropractic neurologist, he has addressed a variety of patient issues, including TMJ pain. In addition to his work as a physician, Dr. David Friedman has spent nearly a decade as the host of the syndicated radio show To Your Good Health.
Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the jawbone to the skull. This joint is used almost constantly, as it helps a person talk, chew food, and swallow. When the joint becomes overused (including clenching the jaw,) or is impacted by an injury, an individual may begin to experience pain and discomfort as the result of a TMJ disorder. Pain and discomfort are the leading symptoms of TMJ disorder, particularly throughout the jaw, face, and neck. In addition to pain while chewing, a person may hear clicking or popping sounds whenever they open and close their mouth.
As TMJ disorders progress, pain can become more significant and may even develop into chronic headaches, dizziness, and vertigo. In some cases, minor TMJ disorders can be treated with various jaw stretching and strengthening exercises, a mouth guard, and other at home therapies. However, more advanced disorders may require an occlusal adjustment or TMJ implants. Dr. Friedman has received post-doctorate certification in TMJ Dysfunction diagnosis and treatment. He combines a gentle realignment of the jaw, therapy (heat and muscle stim) and an advanced exercise protocol. His track record for correcting TMJ disorders is an astounding 98%!
